IN THE BEST AMERICAN TRADITION: YOUR GLOBAL GAZETTE
Open Up a World of Perceptions:
Donate to Watching America.com
Dear WatchingAmerica.com Readers,
The people of WatchingAmerica.com know they are making history. But it isn't
only making history that matters. What really matters is that this is
history-making in the public interest. We do this by bringing you news and
opinion about the United States
from the non-U.S. sources most Americans have never been able to read before.
WatchingAmerica.com was launched in January 2005, and since that time,
we have translated thousands of articles from the most renowned newspapers in
their countries of origin.
With our team of talented translators, from Washington to Cairo, from
Paris to Singapore, and by bringing to bear the best language technology now
available, we have begun the process of opening up all of the world's print
media to American and English-speaking readers.
But despite the attention and accolades that our work has garnered, we
have yet to reach enough people and build the amount of online traffic
necessary to survive on that alone. Rising above the media din is quite a
challenge - especially considering the amount we have had available for
advertising ($0).
Help us provide a place where Americans and the people of the rest of
the world can conduct a little unmediated conversation. Become part of
WatchingAmerica.com by helping us fund it. We calculate that just $30,000 will
fund another year of our work, providing global perceptions of the United
States.
For the next few weeks, we'll be holding our first fundraising drive,
leading up to the WatchingAmerica.com
Tower of Babel Party at The Tank - in Manhattan on October 6 (see DETAILS below). The first 200 people
who donate $30 or more, or make a recurring donation of $5 a month or more will
receive an e-ticket for the Manhattan
event. But whether or not you are able to join us at the October bash, please
give this paradigm-shift in media a chance to survive.
We have gotten to this point under our own steam to create this new
channel of information for the American people and the English-speaking world.
Now this historic vision of breaking down the language barrier is in your
hands.
Help maintain Watching America as
a unique and independent source. Our work arises from a passionate belief in
the need for greater mutual understanding among the peoples of the world and
for unvarnished global perceptions of the United
States - a vision that we know you
share.
