America at War With the World and Itself

Is it possible that the United States is poking its nose into places that it doesn't belong? According to this editorial from Saudi Arabia's Arabic-language Al-Riyadh, by doing so, the Bush Administration has created tremendous domestic turmoil for itself, and has turned even its friends into adversaries.

On many fronts, America is facing difficult situations and fighting opposing ideologies. At war in Afghanistan and Iraq, America is warning Europe that it is in danger of becoming nothing but a museum, while Russia is adopting the policies of the former Soviet Union, which is the reason for its oil deals with Iran and its decision to purchase civilian aircraft from Boeing rather than Airbus.

Moreover, there are questions surrounding [Donald] Rumsfeld, who is being described by educated Americans and politicians as a liar and a warmonger. According to the opinion polls, Bush is now the worst president in American history. Asia's economic and military rise is worrying the maker of American policy, so now he is looking to create new alliances and establish military bases to encircle China and cause Beijing to be wary of India.

America is a superpower in every field, so why does she begin battles with faraway South American countries who have announced the nationalization of its oil and gas fields (Bolivia)? Why does it pick fights with South American countries that are creating economic alliances in the shadow of its northern neighbor? Why does America try to pull the strings behind every event, even when it is outside the sphere of its so-called national security interests? While there are trouble spots in States such as Sudan on the continent of Africa, is America really a party to these?

Some Americans are calling for isolationism, so that the country can focus on its domestic problems and invest in its own development and human potential, but globalization is utterly opposed to isolationism. America's foreign investments, especially in China, while bringing losses, also bring tremendous gains.

These gains are the enormous profits made by American companies. The losses are due to China's rapid growth, which has led to the closing of many factories in America, the competition for energy and the spread of Chinese investment to many other countries, especially those thought to possess oil, minerals and agricultural products needed by China's expanding markets and industries.

The public debate in America covers many issues, such as the growing insurgency in Afghanistan, and the conviction by many that the Iraq invasion was a waste. Those two issues emerge as a direct result of the American treasure spent and the number of U.S. officers and soldiers that have fallen victim.

Besides all of these reasons, there is global political animosity toward any of America's old explanations, such as fighting communism, which was swept away with the disintegration of the Soviets. Similarly, using the pretext of the war on terror and the spread of democracy to serve America's hegemonic interests has become a problem, and has created a predicament that can no longer be called a triumph. This is what is pushing American domestic forces to speak up and openly oppose the policies of their leaders.

أمريكا.. حرب مع العالم!!

 على جبهات عديدة تحارب أمريكا أوضاعاً، وعقائد، وتدخل في حروب مع أفغانستان والعراق، وتنذر أوروبا التي شبهتها بمتحف آثار منتهي الصلاحيات، وتدخل مع الروس في شجار آخر على السياسات في الاتحاد السوفياتي القديم، وإيران والسبب صفقات نفط وطائرات مدنية حولت روسيا رغبتها من شراء (بوينغ) إلى (إيرباص)..

بالمقابل هناك تساؤلات وصلت إلى وصف رامسفيلد بالكذاب ومفجر الحروب من قبل مثقفين وسياسيين أمريكيين، وتحولت صورة بوش إلى أسوأ رئيس دولة في التاريخ الأمريكي نتيجة استطلاعات الرأي، ومع بروز آسيا الاقتصادية والعسكرية بدأت المخاوف تصعد بصانع السياسة الأمريكية إلى إيجاد تحالفات وإنشاء قواعد عسكرية تطوق الصين وتخشى الهند..

أمريكا قوة عظمى في كل شيء لكن لماذا فتح هذه المعارك، هل بدأت ترتاب بدول أمريكا الجنوبية التي جاءت (بوليفيا) لتعلن تأميم غازها ونفطها وتتجه مع دول القارة الجنوبية إلى خلق تحالفات اقتصادية في وجه الجار الشمالي؟ وكذلك الركض خلف كل حدث حتى لو كان خارج ما تسميه بأمنها واستراتيجيتها.. مثل السودان ودول القارة الافريقية، بمعنى أنه لا توجد بقعة متوترة، إلا وأمريكا طرف فيها؟..

هناك من نادى بعزلة أمريكا لتتفرغ لشؤونها الداخلية، وجعل مواردها في خدمة التنمية البشرية، لكن فتح باب العولمة، مناقض تماماً لتلك الدعوات، وقد جاءت استثماراتها الخارجية، وخاصة في الصين، بمكاسب وخسائر معاً.

مكاسب بحصولها على عوائد هائلة من خلال شركاتها بما حققته من أرباح، وخسائر أن الصين استطاعت أن تنمو بشكل سريع أدى إلى إغلاق العديد من المصانع الصغيرة والكبيرة بأمريكا، ومزاحمتها على استهلاك الطاقة، وانتشار استثماراتها في كثير من الدول وخاصة ممن تتنبأ أن فيها نفطاً ومعادن، ومنتجات زراعية سخية يحتاجها السوق والمصنع الصينيان..

الجدل في أمريكا تناول العديد من القضايا مثل تنامي المقاومة في افغانستان والوصول إلى قناعة أن غزو العراق كان حرباً عبثية، وهما سببان مباشران في التورط بالإنفاق والضحايا من الجنود والضباط الأمريكيين..

عدا ذلك هناك عداء سياسي عالمي لأمريكا أي أن ذرائع قديمة مثل محاربة الشيوعية سقطت مع زوال السوفيات، لكن الادعاء بالحرب على الإرهاب وتعميم الديمقراطية وفتح منافذ للهيمنة الأمريكية، أصبحت ورطة ولم تعد انتصاراً، وهذا ما أثار القوى الداخلية الأمريكية أن تتحدث وتجاهر بالمعارضة لسياسة قادتها.
