The 'Empire' and Condi 'Suffer Defeat' at the OAS

"Condoleezza was upset, she stood up like a bolt of lightning and left. … I know when she's disturbed and when she's calm. These are signs of imperial decline, a defeated Empire, a great loss for the Empire."

The President of the Venezuelan Republic, Hugo Chavez, reiterated to foreign correspondents on Wednesday, that the United States had attempted a "soft coup" against his government.

From the Miraflores Palace, Venezuelan Chief-of-State Hugo Chavez explained the nature of the supposed "soft coup" and said that students were being used for the purpose, which he also referred to as a "soft coup with a slow fuse."

On the other hand, Chavez pointed out that "the Empire suffered a defeat" at the most recent General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), which took place in Panama .  According to Chavez, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice "was upset, she stood up like a bolt of lightning and left, these are the signs of imperial decline, a defeated Empire, a great loss for the Empire."

[Editor's Note: At the OAS meeting on Wednesday, there was a request by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for an OAS delegation to be sent to Venezuela to investigate the decision of the Chavez government to deny a broadcast license to an opposition TV station, RCTV , but her request was not put on the agenda. Then when Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro was about to speak, Rice abruptly left].

The Head-of-State further expressed that "not one country … they failed to obtain the support of even a single country [in an attempt to intervene in Venezuelan domestic affairs]; they managed to exert a certain amount of pressure through conducting political operations, etc. In representing a country that brings to the table such an indecent proposal, Rice herself had to wear the expression of moral and political defeat on her face.

Chavez said that he knows Secretary of State Rice very well: "I know when she's disturbed and when she's calm," and upon analysis of her intervention he repeated that "undoubtedly, because they [the U.S.] failed to find anyone to do their dirty work, she was forced to leave."

Chavez emphasized once more the imperial strategy behind Rice’s words. "We could call it a dual purpose strategy; the internal strategy, inside Venezuela, the Empire intends to encourage and set in motion opposition to its government, its people and the nation; and it has an external international strategy, as well, but there the truth has been revealed."

Chavez expressed his gratitude to Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro, for the defense mounted by him and his delegation. "I would like to raise the voice of our noble country to acknowledge with heart and soul our very special foreign minister, friend and comrade Nicolas Maduro. Thank you, Nicolas, for representing us with such dignity and excellence at the General Assembly of the OAS. Congratulations."

The President said that represented a victory not just for Venezuela, but for the dignity of the world, "because in situations like these, we modestly will always represent the voice of those who have no voice."
