U.S. Will Either Talk to Iran or Hand Win to al-Qaeda
Is al-Qaeda fanning the flames between the U.S. and Iran? According to this editorial from state-run Iran News Daily, the safehouse where Zarqawi met his fate contained a trove of evidence to prove the point, but the Western media refuse to cover it. The editorial, which Tehran no doubt approved, includes something approaching a plea for Western leniency at nuclear talks in Vienna.

The attack on the residence of al-Zarqawi, who led al-Qaeda
militants in Iraq, led to the discovery of important documents which show that
al-Qaeda intends to intensify the confrontation between Iran and the United
States.
The documents, which were disclosed by Iraq's national security
advisor [Mouwafak al-Rubaie], maintain that a military confrontation between
the United States and Iran would be very beneficial to the Sunni extremists.
Analysts believe that the liberation of Sunnis from Shiite
domination, The weakening of Shiites, the engagement of American forces in a
new war, and forcing Iran to help so-called “resistance forces” in Iraq, would
be some of those benefits.
The documents also show that Zarqawi had sought to magnify the
threat posed by Iran in the eyes of the United States and Europe
The evidence proves that al-Qaeda's leadership believes that a
propaganda war should be launched to convince the world that Iran possesses
chemical and nuclear weapons, and to convince Western nations that Iranian
Shiites are planting bombs in Iraq.
Therefore, analysts also suggest that Iran is not only a victim of
Zionists extremists, but faces animosity from al-Qaeda fundamentalists.
The biggest disappointment to come out of the disclosure of these
documents, is the complete silence of Western media. If the documents had
contained material damaging to Iran, these same media groups would have
launched a major propaganda campaign against the Islamic Republic.
The same documents also show that al-Qaeda wants to accuse Iran of
the same crimes that the Western media has been pointing to, despite a complete
lack of evidence. Cognizant of the fact that evidence of Iranian innocence will
fall on deaf Western ears, al-Qaeda plans to add fuel to the Western media's
anti-Iran fire. The group enjoys considerable financial backing from religious
fanatics.
Especially in view of the current situation and the latest 5+1
group's package of incentives to Iran [in exchange for a halt to its nuclear
program], European countries and the United States should revise their policies
in regard to the media.
The West should tell its media to tone down the hostility toward
Iran and push forward with negotiations, withdraw the baseless charges against
Iran, and seek to build confidence.
Iran has observed all of its international commitments by
voluntarily suspending uranium enrichment for over two years, and by implementing
the Additional Protocol to the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Now it is the turn of Western countries to start building confidence with Iran.
