Will Bush Free His Favorite Terrorist on October 5th?

Unleashed by Bush the Nazi five years ago and born out of an interminable chain of proven lies, the "war against terror" itself has been the greatest of all falsifications, which have been maintained by his government and those of his docile European allies and others. It is in fact a war against the people to prop up the declining world-wide hegemony of the United States and its control of petroleum; first of all but not only in the Islamic world.

The textbook double standard upon which this strange war on terror is based has been exposed by the American protection received by that arch-terrorist of Cuban origin, Luis Posada Carriles .

When Washington permitted in March 2005 the illegal entry onto its territory of Posada - which according to declassified CIA and FBI documents was the mastermind of numerous terrorist acts against Cuba and the revolutionary movement in Latin America, it demonstrated that it "gives shelter" to terrorists, an act that Bush has insisted is sufficient for him to bomb another country. Months later, an FBI document was published in Miami revealing that an FBI agent had infiltrated the group that had organized the ocean voyage of Posada Carriles from Mexico to the United States. This was accomplished with the help of Santiago Alvarez , the leader of an anti Cuban terrorist group who was later arrested by police in South Florida with an arsenal of weapons.

The Bush Government has handled the Posada case as if it were a matter of a foreigner entering the country illegally, after they were forced to detain him after a scandal broke out. Posada decided to hold a press conference in Miami, just as Washington perjured itself by swearing that the story of his presence in the United States was an "invention of Fidel Castro."

The Bush Government hasn't responded to Venezuela's May 2005 request for U.S. authorities to detain Posada for the purposes of extradition. The request by Caracas asserts that the terrorist escaped a prison in that country while awaiting a court's decision on charges that in 1976, he blew up a Cuban aircraft with 73 people aboard.

By failing to respond to the Venezuelan request, Washington is in violation of the extradition treaty that remains in force between the two countries, several American laws and two international treaties linked to the fight against terrorism that the two nations have signed. The recent summit of Non-Aligned States in Havana supported the Venezuelan request, and days later the topic was brought up at the opening of the U.N. General Assembly by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Watch and Chilean President Michelle Bachelet Watch .

The immigration judge that the case was brought before ordered Posada's deportation to a country other than Cuba or Venezuela, where he alleged that Posada could be tortured. But since the decision, no nation has wanted to receive him, and according to United States law, a foreigner cannot be imprisoned indefinitely simply due to a lack of identity papers.

In fact, an El Paso judge has already given the government an October 5th deadline to explain why Posada must be kept behind bars. The judge's action was in response to the running of a federal judge who determined that the American government had just two alternatives: either to set Posada free or have Attorney General Alberto Gonzales certify that Posada is a terrorist.

This places Bush in tight spot, because if the government lists Posada as a terrorist, no one would understand why he doesn't do the same with scores of his associates living in the United States, many of whom regularly plan actions against Cuba. If Posada Carriles is certified as a terrorist, it would open up the sewers and reveal all of the anti-Cuban terrorists being sheltered by the United States.

Why was his entry into the United States permitted? Why wasn't he classified as a terrorist before? Why don't they indict him? These would be some of the questions that would hound the Bush government. And it would inevitably lead to another case: the unjust imprisonment of five Cuban counter-terrorists.

It would suffice if a reporter from any of the more important newspapers probed into the rigged judicial process against the celebrated Miami five, the activity of which consisted of informing Havana that terrorists of Cuban origin in Florida were planning attacks, and where the district attorney has been unable to prove any of the accusations against them.

Bush is in a serious bind: will he certify Posada as terrorist, or will he let him go free? On the 5th of October we will know.

¿Qué guerra contra el terrorismo?

Basada en una cadena interminable de comprobadas mentiras, la "guerra contra el terrorismo", desatada por Bush El nazi hace cinco años, es ella misma la más grande de todas las falsedades sostenidas por su gobierno y los de sus dóciles aliados europeos y de otras partes del mundo. En realidad se trata de una guerra contra los pueblos para asegurar la decadente hegemonía mundial de Estados Unidos y su control de los hidrocarburos; en primera instancia, aunque no únicamente, en el mundo islámico.

Un caso paradigmático sobre el doble rasero en que se basa la extraña guerra contra el terrorismo es el de la protección que recibe en Estados Unidos el architerrorista de origen cubano Luis Posada Carriles.

Al permitir en marzo de 2005 el ingreso ilegal en su territorio de Posada -autor intelectual de numerosas acciones terroristas contra Cuba y el movimiento revolucionario latinoamericano, según documentos desclasificados de la CIA y la FBI-, Washington evidenció que "da albergue" a terroristas, acción que Bush ha afirmado es causa suficiente para bombardear otro país. Meses después se publicó en Miami un documento de la FBI revelando que un agente suyo estaba infiltrado en el grupo que organizó la operación de traslado marítimo de Posada Carriles desde México a Estados Unidos. Esto a raíz de que a Santiago Alvarez, jefe del grupo y connotado terrorista anticubano, le fuera ocupado por la policía un arsenal de armas de guerra en el sur de Florida.

El caso de Posada ha sido tratado por el gobierno de Bush como el de un extranjero más que ha entrado ilegalmente, luego de que se viera forzado a detenerlo ante el escándalo provocado por una conferencia de prensa que convocó en Miami, justo cuando Washington juraba y perjuraba que su presencia en Estados Unidos era un "invento de Fidel Castro".

El gobierno de Bush no ha respondido al pedido de detención de Posada con fines de extradición formulado por Venezuela desde mayo de 2005. La solicitud de Caracas obedece a que el terrorista se fugó de una cárcel de ese país cuando esperaba un nuevo juicio por la voladura de un avión cubano con 73 personas a bordo, en 1976.

Al dar la callada por respuesta a la solicitud venezolana, Washington viola el tratado de extradición vigente entre los dos países, varias leyes estadunidenses y dos tratados internacionales de los que es signatario, vinculados a la lucha contra el terrorismo. La reciente cumbre de los No Alineados en La Habana apoyó la solicitud venezolana y días después el tema fue llevado a la Asamblea General de la ONU por los presidentes Hugo Chávez y Michelle Bachelet, de Venezuela y Chile.

Presentado ante un juez de inmigración, éste ordenó la deportación de Posada excepto a Cuba o Venezuela, donde alegó que podía ser torturado. Pero desde entonces ningún país ha querido recibirlo, y según la ley estadunidense un extranjero no puede ser recluido indefinidamente por el solo hecho de estar indocumentado.

De hecho, ya un juez federal de El Paso ha dado de plazo al gobierno hasta el 5 de octubre para que explique por qué Posada debe continuar detenido. La actuación del juez obedece al dictamen de un magistrado federal, quien determinó que el gobierno estadunidense tenía dos alternativas: o poner a Posada en libertad o que el procurador general Alberto Gonzales certificara que es un terrorista.

Esto ha colocado a Bush en el disparadero porque si el gobierno cataloga a Posada de terrorista nadie se explicaría por qué no hace lo mismo con decenas de sus cofrades en Estados Unidos, muchos de los cuales continúan planeando acciones contra Cuba. Si Posada Carriles es certificado de terrorista se destaparía la cloaca sobre el auspicio y protección que brinda Estados Unidos al terrorismo anticubano. ¿Por qué permitió su ingreso en Estados Unidos?, ¿por qué no lo catalogó de terrorista anteriormente?, ¿por qué no lo enjuicia?, serían las preguntas que acosarían al gobierno de Bush. Y ello conduciría inevitablemente a otro caso: el injusto encarcelamiento de los cinco jóvenes antiterroristas cubanos.

Bastaría que un reportero de algún diario importante hurgara en el amañado proceso celebrado contra los cinco en Miami, donde declararon que su actividad consistía en informar a La Habana sobre los planes de los terroristas de origen cubano en Florida y donde la fiscalía no pudo probar ninguna de sus acusaciones.

Bush está en un serio aprieto: ¿certificará a Posada de terrorista o lo dejará en libertad? El 5 de octubre lo sabremos.
