The success of the visit of George W. Bush in the Middle
East,
depends on whether the main reason for his trip is to revive the peace process
between Israel and Palestine or to
prepare the American public and the world for an upcoming war against Iran.
The story of small Iranian Evinrude
motorboats that surrounded and threatened large American destroyers in the Strait
of Hormuz has all the
characteristics of a propaganda tactic of George W. – evil tactics to which we
are sadly accustomed. And these inopportune speeches delivered in Saudi
Arabia and the United
Arab Emirates against these evil
Iranian enemies of democracy clash with false notes.
It seems that George Bush has not yet understood
that we will never respond to the great problems of the world through threats
and force of arms. The only possible and effective way to establish peace is
fierce determination to make a friend out of an enemy and act accordingly. This
is how great American presidents before him, by dint of patience and good
gestures, managed to bring about peace in the former USSR and China, and make
them major trading partners that are increasingly open to change.
