President Bush, 'You are Carrying the Sun of Freedom'

While we are unable to translate Mongolian press coverage of President Bush's visit to that country, the newspaper Mongolia Online published two poems written by S. Tsogsuren, a poet and official of Mongolia's State Property Committee. Clearly, the depth of Mongolian adoration for George W. is something the President would like to replicate elsewhere.

The people of Mongolia are happy to welcome

The president of the greatest country in the world

To this vast land of the Mongols

And indeed it seems that everything

Even mountains and rivers

Looks like it is greeting you with joy

President Bush! You are well known to all nations

As the outstanding leader of America

With its historic fathering of the ideals of freedom and democracy

We, too, have long held America this way in our reflections

When greeting and welcoming you

Under the blue Mongolian sky

At the Buyant Ukhaa airport

It was gratifying to present you the blue hadak (scarf)

You are carrying the "sun" of freedom

Along with your being

You are carrying the "moon" of wisdom

Along with your being

We feel all this from you, along with benign intent

Borne of your innate integrity

Running as the water of the Mississippi and

With an eye on developing countries and nations of the world

We know you as a man of courage and determination

Speaking from the U.N. rostrum you declared

War without mercy against dirty and sinful terrorism

Strongly we support you to make people

free, safe and happy

And we are grateful to you for what you do

Grateful we are for your coming to our country

Though weak and small

Grateful we are for your being in the land of Genghis Khan

Proud are we of the wealth

That the bowels of this Asian land contain

And of the riches of the people herein

Momentous is the charm of First Lady Laura
She is here with the President

This is another source of our rejoicing

As we know, First Lady Bush loves children

In all places, poverty inflicts children first

The situation here is no exception

Therefore any help designed to alleviate

The situation would be much appreciated

In the secret history of the Mongols it was written

Eight hundred years ago,

The details of making an empire

And ways of life thereof

But the people experienced turbulent lives

The long path they traveled was troublesome

But finally they reached where we are today

Thus history has taught us what we should do and not

We wish you a happy and pleasant stay

In the land of blue sky

We hope you advise us what we ought to do

For the betterment of this country

Hopefully a joint statement or declaration

That would tell the world what we are to say

About friendly cooperation between our two countries

To be developed today and tomorrow

May your Excellencyís visit be enjoyable

May your noble mission for world peace

Be crowned with continued success and triumph

May the living world be ever happy!

Pleasing and divine in her countenance

Glorious and firm in here words

Condoleezza Rice is African-American

Well known to the world as a great statesperson

She is a woman of integrity and charisma

Gifted with brilliant talents including music

And her knowledge and education are unique

She has a healthy, slim figure and white jade teeth

symbolizing longevity

The U.S. Secretary of State

Condoleezza Rice, you are now

In Asia on an official visit to Mongolia

Hopefully you may enlighten us as to what

More purposeful things we should do

We the Mongols

Understand you well

You have come here with promising objectives

To support democratic changes we are making

This country takes part

In peacekeeping operations

Walking along the road

Of freedom and liberty

America is far away

Though we are close in mind

As people say: stars are far away

But the moon is close

We are happy to welcome the U.S. President

Who is in Mongolia on an official visit

The people of Blue Mongolia

Are welcoming the leader of the USA

We the Mongols will never forget

What you gave us in support

We the Mongols feel today

The values of freedom you brought here

When you next return to Mongolia

The weak country of today will be different
