Poem: 'Avoiding the Law of the Jungle'

Unlike most American newspapers, Arabic periodicals often have a poetry section. According to this poem called 'The Law of the Jungle,' which appeared in Saudi Arabia's Arabic-language Okaz newspaper, the United States is no longer the 'beacon of light' that it once was.

Between defending freedom and human life

And violating it

Stands America

As a beacon of light

Or the beginning of the end

She rules the World

With her economic, political and military might

She strikes at the heart of every human agreement

From refusing to ratify Kyoto

To abandoning UNESCO

By subverting the global consensus

On almost every matter

America … America

Therefore what happens at Guantanamo

Must not be overlooked by the honorable

Starting from inhumane imprisonment

On an occupied island

To people being killed

or even committing suicide

Under pressure from global terror

America … America

She is fighting terrorism

And practicing it herself

Will we hear today the voice of the excluded

outside the circle of power?

Will they confront America?

The violations of America

The injustice of America

So the world does not become a jungle

And America remain lawless

Pretending to protect the world

But living by the law of the jungle.

حتى لا يتحول العالم الى غابة

بين الدفاع عن حرية وحياة الانسان

وانتهاكها

تقف أمريكا

على نقطة الضوء

أو بداية النهاية

فهي التي تتزعم العالم

عبر قوتها الاقتصادية والسياسية والعسكرية

وهي التي تضرب في الصميم

كل الاتفاقيات الانسانية

بدءاً من رفض اتفاقية كيوتو

حتى الانسحاب من اليونسكو

مروراً بالخروج على الاجماع العالمي

في كل شيء

أمريكا.. هي أمريكا

ولذلك فإن ما حدث ويحدث في جوانتانامو

يجب ان لا يمر مرور الكرام

بدءاً من السجن غير الانساني

في جزيرة محتلة

الى بشر يقتلون أو حتى ينتحرون

حتى ضغط الارهاب الدولي/ الأمريكي
أمريكا التي تحارب الارهاب

ها هي تمارسه دولياً

فهل نسمع اليوم عن رأي يخرج

من دائرة الصمت

أو محاكمة الدول الصغرى.. أو البعيدة

عن دائرة القوة

لتواجه أمريكا

وانتهاكات أمريكا

وظلم أمريكا

حتى لا يصبح العالم غابة

وامريكا هي..

تنتهك قوانين الغابة

وتدعي حمايتها
