In the
State of Nevada, on January 19, Ron Paul obtained the second place in the
primaries.
Freedom
is his motto, and Government should not redefine ‘marriage’.
Among the
competitors for the presidency of the US, one who has caught my attention, more
than the Hilary vs. Obama competition on the democrat
side, is the republican congressman Ron Paul (www.ronpaul2008.com) whom nobody
gave the slightest chance in view of his opponents’ pretentious and well funded
campaign machines, such as those of McCain and Giuliani, but whom, in fact,
voters have favored impressively.
In the
State of Nevada, on January 19, he took second place in the primaries,
beating McCain, Huckabee, Thompson and --naturally—Giuliani.
A setback
also for the mass media conglomerates who highbrowed right from the beginning a
candidate’s program full of simplicity, honesty, humility and actual ‘revolution’,
and who wonder now how could Paul have done it without them.
He does
it without the mass media, but with people, many people tired, fed-up, desperate about the future of the United States. He does it through the “I-n-t-e-r-n-e-t” as his mass medium, his
vehicle, his pulpit to advance the proposals that have never been heard in the
US at the level of big politics, obtaining through it record figures of visits
to his website or in funds raising.
And Paul
has become now a political star, both because of his intelligent speeches and
his relentless critique of the candidates who have deviated from the true
constitutional principles that made the US a great nation.
Paul
defends life, property and freedom, in the frame of a truthful State that returns
to the pristine Constitution itself, which permits a real Free Market without
the need for “free trade agreements”. His position in favor of the Constitution
is iron-strong and is his principal proposal defended vehemently every day. That is both his strength and the weakness of
his opponents.
Paul is
anti-imperialist and a pacifist by definition. Something rare
among the recent republican imperialist proposals. Beyond gender (Hilary)
or ethnicity (Obama) on the democrat side, Paul’s
proposal, on the republican side, has popped up as the most “liberal” (in the
American sense of the word) and “classic liberal”. His knowledge of the system (and abuses) of
the central bank in the US together with his solid economic education make Paul
much superior intellectually and morally than any other candidate, either on
the democrat or republican side.
And his
distinction in limiting government constitutional functions, together with his
love for individual rights of citizens is awakening the most brilliant minds in
the US to reconsider his identity.
In
difficult topics such as homosexuality, drugs and immigration, Paul’s position
is simply refreshing. Freedom is his motto: government should not redefine ‘marriage’,
he says, and individuals’ decisions should be respected.
With
regard to drugs, Paul, as a Libertarian, opts for legalization. Among so much collectivism,
mercantilism, socialism, protectionism, eco-hysterics, it’s really a blessing
to listen to Ron Paul.
